About the Role

Join Day Group as a Haulage Capacity Manager and play a key role in ensuring we have the transport capacity required to support our customers, operations, and continuing growth.

Working closely with our Logistics, Transport, and Sales teams, you’ll be responsible for developing and managing relationships with external haulage providers, sourcing additional transport capacity, negotiating haulage rates, and supporting the efficient movement of materials across the business.

This is a commercially focused role that combines relationship management, transport planning, and supplier management. You’ll work with hauliers across the UK, helping to maximise service levels, maintain compliance standards, and support the continued growth of Day Group’s transport and logistics operations.

Person Specification

We are looking for a confident and commercially minded individual who enjoys building relationships and working in a fast-paced logistics environment. You will be comfortable communicating with suppliers, negotiating rates, and identifying solutions to transport challenges whilst maintaining strong customer service and operational standards.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, possess excellent geographical knowledge, and have the ability to balance multiple priorities effectively. Experience within haulage, logistics, transport, aggregates, construction materials, or a related sector would be advantageous.

This role will suit someone who is proactive, commercially aware, and motivated by developing strong partnerships that contribute to business success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and develop relationships with new haulage providers to support operational requirements
  • Manage and maintain relationships with existing haulier partners
  • Arrange and allocate work to external hauliers
  • Support the Sales Team by providing haulage rate quotations
  • Review, manage, and update haulage rate structures in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Negotiate job-specific transport rates with haulage providers
  • Liaise with Day Group depots and logistics teams to identify and source additional transport capacity where required
  • Monitor and manage haulier compliance, including insurance and waste carrier licence requirements
  • Attend industry events and develop market knowledge to support supplier development and business growth
  • Promote Company values and maintain high standards of professionalism, safety, and compliance at all times

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong geographical knowledge and route-planning awareness
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Good organisational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proactive and solution-focused approach to work

Desirable

  • Experience within haulage, logistics, transport, aggregates, construction materials, or a related industry
  • Experience managing supplier or subcontractor relationships
  • Knowledge of transport operations and haulage markets
  • Experience negotiating rates, contracts, or commercial agreements
  • Understanding of transport compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of waste carrier licensing and haulage compliance processes
