Role Overview
About the Role
Join Day Group as a Logistics Coordinator at our Tolworth depot and play a key role in ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of our transport and logistics activities.
Working as part of a busy logistics team, you’ll act as the central point of communication between customers, drivers, contract hauliers, and depot operations. You’ll be responsible for coordinating customer orders, planning vehicle schedules, allocating work to drivers, and supporting the smooth movement of materials across our network.
This is a varied role that requires excellent organisational skills, strong communication, and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure. You’ll help maximise fleet utilisation, maintain high levels of customer service, and contribute to the safe and efficient running of the depot.
Person Specification
We are looking for a highly organised and proactive individual who enjoys working in a dynamic operational environment. You will be confident communicating with customers, drivers, and colleagues, capable of managing multiple priorities, and able to adapt quickly to changing operational demands.
Experience within logistics, transport, aggregates, construction, or a related industry would be beneficial, although candidates with strong coordination and planning experience from other sectors will also be considered.
A good understanding of geographical routing, strong administrative skills, and a commitment to safety and customer service will be key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and coordinate customer orders and enquiries
- Plan and schedule incoming materials, outgoing deliveries, and internal transfers
- Allocate work to vehicles and drivers, ensuring the efficient utilisation of the Company's HGV fleet
- Source and manage contract hauliers when additional transport capacity is required
- Maximise vehicle earnings through effective route planning and scheduling
- Monitor fleet activity and respond to operational changes or customer requirements
- Manage site traffic, visitors, and driver inductions in accordance with depot procedures
- Complete administration relating to invoicing, vehicle earnings, and drivers' wages
- Maintain accurate operational records and transport documentation
- Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental performance
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the depot and wider logistics function
- Build positive working relationships with customers, drivers, colleagues, and suppliers
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Ability to prioritise workloads and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Good geographical knowledge and route-planning awareness
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional and customer-focused approach
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Desirable
- Experience within logistics, transport, aggregates, construction, or a similar operational environment
- Knowledge of HGV operations and fleet scheduling
- Understanding of drivers' hours regulations and the Working Time Directive
- Experience working with transport management or logistics systems
- Experience coordinating subcontractors or contract hauliers
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within a depot or transport environment
