About the Role

Join Day Group as a Mobile Plant Fitter and play a vital role in maintaining the plant and equipment that supports our recycling, aggregates, and waste management operations.

Working across our sites, you’ll be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining a range of heavy mobile and fixed plant equipment, helping to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive approach, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to work independently when required.

You’ll work on a varied fleet of equipment, including excavators, loading shovels, crushers, screeners, conveyors, and specialist attachments, carrying out repairs, maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections to minimise downtime and maximise performance.

 

Working hours/times

Monday to Friday, 07:00-17:00. Additional hours and Saturday working may be required to support operational requirements.

 

Package

Annual salary plus the 9% non-contributory pension with Scottish Widows. You may be entitled to the discretionary Annual and Christmas bonuses. Annual leave of 25 days per year, plus 8 Bank Holidays. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, repair, and maintain heavy mobile and fixed plant equipment
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on excavators, loading shovels, crushers, screeners, conveyors, and associated equipment
  • Maintain and repair excavator attachments, including concrete pulverisers and clamshell grabs
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and transmission faults
  • Complete routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities
  • Liaise with depot managers, site teams, and engineers to coordinate repair and maintenance work
  • Identify required parts and work with suppliers to source components when necessary
  • Complete job sheets, maintenance records, and service reports accurately
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company health, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Support the efficient operation of plant and equipment through high standards of workmanship and reliability

 

Person Specification

We are looking for an experienced and practical individual with a strong background in maintaining heavy plant and construction equipment. You will be confident working independently, diagnosing faults, and carrying out repairs to a high standard while maintaining a strong commitment to health and safety. You should be organised, self-motivated, and capable of working effectively with site teams, suppliers, and operational managers to keep equipment running efficiently across the business.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile and fixed plant equipment
  • Experience working on excavators, loading shovels, crushers, screeners, conveyors, or similar machinery
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drivetrains
  • Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently and use sound judgement when resolving technical issues
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Welding experience using MMA, MIG, or both
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Experience using diagnostic software on construction or heavy plant equipment
  • Experience working within recycling, aggregates, quarrying, waste management, or construction sectors
  • Mobile plant maintenance qualifications or relevant engineering certifications
  • Experience supporting multiple operational sites
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programmes and asset management systems
