Gatwick Airport

Airport noise can be a somewhat contentious subject for those living under the flight paths. However, for this project, Day Aggregates worked at Gatwick Airport to help reduce the noise coming from the runways.  The design was an airport landscaping improvement and it included the perimeter bunding being improved or created.

Due to the busy nature of Gatwick Airport, the majority of the work had to take place at night. During daylight hours, we were able to stockpile the material in a nearby yard, with Gatwick Group then providing the haulage to the airport (airside) over night.

The bulk of the material supplied was a BS 3559 Multi-Purpose Topsoil from the Woodhorn Group at Oving who is Day Aggregates approved soil supplier. They supply and provide pre-bagged soils for our bagging plants at Southampton, Portslade and Newhaven.  For this project they pre-bagged the material while we provided the flatbed artic haulage to Horley.

The peak of the contract was when we supplied 800 tonnes of bagged topsoil and 230 tonnes of 20mm shingle.
